Layout Design Bootcamp – Episode 1 – Direct Mail Piece

Welcome to episode 1 of Layout Design Bootcamp where my goal is to take you through entire design layouts to show you the exact process of how it’s done. In this very first episode, I continued to implement the brand of “America Votes 2012” that I developed in Logo Design Bootcamp Episode number 1. This direct mail piece is 8.5×11 and then the finished piece would be folded in half and then wafer sealed for mailing. This tutorial will teach you so many things including:

  • Starting your document
  • Finding images and setting in Photoshop
  • Finding and implementing dummy text
  • Creating a clipping mask
  • Saving your files correctly for a printer
  • Transparencies with objects over images
  • Enhancing colors using gradients
  • Changing the shape of a text box
  • Altering shapes using the pen tool
  • Keyboard command shortcuts
  • Adding .125 bleed for printing to edge
  • and of course…..much more!
